Discussion on Keeping front shoes with trailers on

Many horses do well with shoes that provide extra heel support. The shoe extending out behind can be a problem for some horses if they catch the front shoe with a hind foot at the wrong moment.

One alternative is to put rubber bell boots on the horse's front legs and leave them on. Be sure they are soft and extend down enough to protect the trailers. Check for rubs until you are satisfied they are comfy. Some are pull on and others are velcro'd. If you use the velcro ones, you can wrap a circle of duct tape over them to protect the fasteners.

My mare is in egg bars at the moment and my first thought was to put the bell boots on her to minimize the chance of one getting yanked off.

Cheers.
