I recently bought a gelding who appears to be quite dominant in the pecking order. I would like to be able to keep him in the same pasture as my other 4 horses but don't know if this is going to be possible. I already had a dominant gelding, that I have never seen be anything less than top horse, 2 mares, and a pony gelding. I tried removing the mares and letting the geldings get acqainted, then readding the mares to the mix but as soon as the mares were added the 2 dominant geldings started fighting. One mare in particular seems to belong especially to my original gelding and he takes exception to her being anywhere near the new gelding. Anybody any ideas on how to smooth the getting acquainted process?
