This morning I had to trim my mare's hoof in one place where the outside edge of the hoof wall was like a "hang nail". I do not have nippers and the farrier had just been there 3 days ago. I was afraid it would rip off more if I did not cut it off. I had just purchased some new garden hand nippers and they worked great. I could not believe how easy and quick it was. I believe I will keep a pair at the barn now.

I think it was in a livestock supply catalog that I saw something similar I think they are normally used on sheep and cows but it mentions horses also, looks just like heavy duty kitchen shears. I want to say it was jeffers supply or valley vet.

I carry a wire cutter in my tack box and have used it successfully to trim a hoof when needed.
