I am looking into the possibility of buying a horse in US and bringing it into Canada.
Could someone tell me what paperwork I would need and if there is a quarantine at the border?
Thank you.

I think https://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/$department/deptdocs.nsf/all/agdex7169?opendocument is the site you want.

Hi Lori,
the legislation is owned by Agriculture Canada and enforced by Canada Border Services Agency.
If you go to https://airs-sari.inspection.gc.ca/airs/airs_decisions.asp?l=E and start with HORSE as the commodity name, you will see what the rules are.
If I remember correctly, in most cases, provided the horse has been in the US for 60 days or more prior to import, in most cases, you need a zoosanitary certificate and a coggins.
Good luck!
