$550 seems like a lot for a couple of tubes and a cooler. But I like the theory behind the product. Anyone have any experience with this product?

Rodney, when my son had surgery on his knee, they sent him home from the hospital with one of these, only they called it "Iceman". It worked great and we've loaned it to lots of people for post surgery icing. I don't think it cost as much as the equine version! Would it work for a horse? You're probably a better judge of that than I, but the product does circulate the ice cold water lots longer than you can keep an icepack cold.

I also had one of these units after knee surgery. As soon as I was through with it I took it to the barn. It works great on the horses. You have to use a wrap to hold it in place but other than that it is fine. I put the horse in cross ties when I use it.

I used the other products.. the wraps.. and am not impressed with them.. My sassy filly can and will stomp them off.. Also the ice melts very quickly..
At the show barn they have the mechanical ice wraps , something like the mack, above.. they love them...

On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with spots..

I haven't used this product, but rented a similar (and much more expensive) version called Game Ready boots. They not only pump iced water but also apply compression. They were recommended by the vet after my horse had surgery for a tendon tear. I think they were instrumental in keeping his swelling down.

A friend at the barn works at the race track and she says her group there has 3 Game Ready units and use them "all the time".

Sara,

Do you think the wrap would stay in place on the knee for a horse that likes to flex his leg when ice is applies (or course I would tie him).

Ann,

I agree. I've found that every product (IE gel) that says they stay colder than real ice never stays cold. Real ice works the best. I may try buying the ice flow product and giving it a chance.
