I always follow your golden rule on my mature horses (its lightened my workload and fattened my pocketbook..Thanks:-)
My long yearling is maintaining a BCS of 5 just on grass hay and 5lbs of alfalfa...no concentrates. Should I cut back on the alfalfa and feed some kind of growing horse feed to ensure the right balance of min/vit/protein etc?
Thanks for answering yet another feed question.

leslie645, your specific questions are handled briefly but completely in the article on Feeding Growing Foals and Young Horses and completely with much detail in the article on Overview of Feeding.
