I bought this trailer that I thought was 7' tall, but actually it's closer to 6'10" if you measure from the bottom of the crossbeams. It measures 7' from the ceiling. My horse is 16.1 maybe 16.2. I put a bumper on his head. Also he doesn't like to go into it, which might be b/c of the height. Should I sell the trailer and find one bigger or will he be OK in that size?

Hi Angela,

The 7' probably refers to exterior dimensions. Horses don't ride (or load, or unload) with their heads straight up, so the trailer is plenty tall enough for your horse. I have trailered 18hh horses in shorter trailers, and they did fine.

Honestly, I don't know why any horse loads except that we train them to do it. Trailers are small and loud and often dark and funny underfoot. So we train our horses to go into them and they do. DrO has a good article here on training for these situations, and you can get lots of advice. My own feeling is that a horse that always leads, always loads, so I would go back to basics and make sure everything is in order. Good luck!
