Hi Gang,

Anyone ever build a paddock (i.e. put up fencing) in the winter with frozen ground? We are in need of another paddock to house my horse that was diagnosed with navicular. I need to get him away from the other horses temporarily. Just wondering what you used and whether it worked. He does know what electric fence is but I have no idea what he would do in a paddock with just electric fence wiring around it.

Thanks
Lynn

Can be a bit pricey, but portable panels work very well. I have used them on a number of occasions to separate horses.

We've used portable panels also. They are a little pricey for initial outlay, but we've had ours for 20+ years and they have the advantage of being flexable as to use. If your ground is as frozen as ours, building even electric post and wire fencing is difficult. You have to melt the ground a little at a time in order to set the posts. We have an auger, but it's pretty impossible to set posts with it until things thaw out. Maybe someone else will have better ideas.
