Dr. O,
I recently posted pictures of pigment changes occuring in my horse. You mentioned that that these could be caused by a copper deficiency. I have also been treating him for a case of thrush that just won't quit. Upon further research, I've learned this may also be a sign of copper deficiency.

It seems I read somewhere that some of the ingredients in joint supplements may interfere with copper absorbtion. Is this true? And if so, which ingredients... glucosamine? chonDrOitin sulphate? MSM?

Thanks in advance, and if I am mistaken on any of this, please advice.

Hello Kristie,
I am not aware that any of these ingredients result in copper deficiency nor do I think it a likely cause of thrush. Concerning the loss of pigment I reported a case that may indicate copper supplementation helps some forms of pigment loss in the horse but, just in case I was not clear earlier, I think the evidence for this is not strong in horses.
