I've always heard that pine tar should only be used on the sole and frog, but have recently come across several horse owners who say they have had very good results from using it on their horses' hoof walls too, usually mixed with vegetable oil.

Any thoughts on this, DrO and others?

Hello LL,

So in fact you CAN use tar on the hoof wall if I'm reading it correctly. Many thanks. Mixing the tar with vegetable oil would be done, I imagine, to thin it a bit or to stop an overly drying effect?
