Dr. O--
If this question appears elsewhere, please forgive me...I didn't see it. For spring shots this year, my vet administered the Fort Dodge WNV vaccine to my recently-adopted STB filly. It was the first time she had received the vaccination, so when we discussed the booster I told him I'd be giving it myself to save him a trip. I had my daughter pick up vaccine from a local tack store, and realized that she'd brought home the Merial, not the Fort Dodge, as the booster. Is it permissible to give the Merial as a booster after having given her the Fort Dodge as the primary WNV shot? Thanks!

Hi Terri,

I know I'm not Dr. O :-)

The vet's here recommend we give the same type of vaccine for the booster. If not, we do the series over again.

My friend's stallion just had a reaction with the Merial, I suggest getting the fort dodge.

I am curious what Dr. O says ...

This is actually a question that has been studied see, Equine Diseases » Nervous System » Incoordination, Weakness, Spasticity, Tremors » West Nile Virus » The New WNV Vaccine seems to work with the old vaccine.

Thanks...I will go ahead and administer it as the booster.
