I am about to move my mare to a new location where the pasture is bermuda. Where she is at now does not have a lot of pasture so this will be a change for her. She is 90days pregnant and in good health. My question is how should I begin her adjustment to the newer lusher pasture. I want to avoid colic and founder as well as any other problems associated with changes in feeding and grazing.
Also, my vet has said that since the pasture is very lush that I should wait to supplement her diet with hay until around October or November. Currently where she is she is on two flakes of hay a day and a little over a pound of purina strategy. I plant to continue with the Purina strategy but I wanted to know what you though of not supplementing her with hay until late fall early winter.

Hello Tammy,
Check out the article at: The Horseman's Advisor: Care for Horses: Nutrition: Roughage and Forage for Horses, an Overview. I think it answers your questions. There are also articles on feeding pregnant mares on the Nutrition Menu.
