These are before and after pics of a trim job on the rear feet of my mare. I think the angle is not quite right.
I understand from what I have been reading that flares are supposed to be filed off, so I did file quite a bit from the quarters but it seemed to me I was makeing the wall thinner, can that be good?

Sorry, I can't seem to get the pics small enough. Do I have to load them one at a time?

Lori we explain about image and attachment uploading at, News & Help ยป Uploading Images and Files Into a Posting. It is not required that they are loaded one post at a time just that each image meets the guidelines.

Lori, If you use the microsoft free download, you have to choose the "handheld" screen size. It is a little smaller than I like, but is the only one that will upload.

I cheat when it comes to uploading images on this site. If I have a huge image that needs compressing I upload it onto one of the photo sites like ofoto.com first, then save it back to my desktop. They automatically resize it at the best possible resolution and reasonable size. Then upload to HA and it always fits.

Great tip, CP. It took me years to figure out how to do it in the roundabout way that I do!
I'll try your way.
Thanks!

Lori, can you stand taking more pictures? One of the sole would be helpful in seeing how much more you could do. Toe looks long still to me, but I am no expert, just learning right along with you!

I'd take a bit more toe as well, and pronounce the roll more. I've only been doing my own horses for 4-5 months, so its an amateur opinion only. I use an hoof angle to keep my horses 49 - 51 degrees and to check for matching bilateral angles on the front and rear pairs. Last trim I measured from coronet to toe bilateral and found that helpful. I know each foot has to match the leg, so I'm not set on producing carbon copies, but I liked knowing I didn't have grossly different feet when the legs looked very well matched. Stacy

This is a close up of one of the hooves and a pic to show the angle of hoof relative to hock.

What do you mean by pronounce the roll more?

Lori, to me, the shot from the heel across the sole to the toe . . . the bars look long . . . but I'm not sure they really are . . . I know you probably don't want them hitting the ground.
I think that "pronounce the roll more" means don't leave any thin, sharp edge around the hoof . . . When I'm done with my trims, I can run my fingers all around the edge of the hoof wall, and it feels smooth and rounded . . . no sharp edges that can chip up or catch my fingers . . . no sharp edges meeting the ground.

Lori, do you think the off side (from the camera) foot looks different from the near side?
One looks like it has significantly more heel than the other.
