Hi!
I was wondering where is the best place to do the vaccines? Neck, hind, breast...? In the case of a foal, where is it best to give his first shot?
Thanks.

Hello Valerie,
There really is no best place as each has its strengths and weaknesses and depends on several factors most importantly is tractability. I strongly recommend you avoid the croup (top of the butt). Abscesses up here drain really poorly. Otherwise any large muscle belly that you have access to, is fair game.

Thank you DrO.
I was just wondering since I have seen different vet use different places.

Though I discourage self vaccination for reasons we have discussed elsewhere, I know there are incidences where it is necessary. I will see if I can put together such an article in the near future on injection techniques. My own niece (semiprofessional horsewomen) abscessed her foal last month and it was completely preventable.
