Discussion on The flys, mosquitos, and bugs are driving me crazy

Hi,
I live in coastal NC. The bugs are just awful right now. Mosquitos at night and Green heads during the day. I leave the horses in during the day. I am beginning to think they need to stay in all the time. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? I buy the most expensive fly sprays and they just don't work, Particularly for the green heads. Has anyone put any research into this? Thanks in advance.

There are now some equine fly repellants with DEET in them and they may be the most effective repellant. Perhaps a light sheet that buckles underneath would be helpful. Turn out after dark and brought in before dawn avoids most of the biting flies with the notable exception of mosquitos.
