My 4 year old gelding has never been seen to sweat. His skin is incredibly dry, itchy and flaky and even his legs are the same even in the heat of the summer. He urinates excessively but doesn`t seem to drink alot and has absolutely no energy. His skin tends to be very sensitive and he doesn`t like being touched to often. He`s like this allyear round, his skin is terrible and I just can`t work out whats causing it. Could it be AnhiDrOsis or something else?

Hello miss A,
The diagnosis of anhiDrOsis is covered in the article associated with this forum. Just click the link "AnhiDrOsis & Deficient Sweating" above then click on the articles link. I don't think anhiDrOsis is solely responsible for all your other problems but could contribute to each one. From your description I cannot tell what else might be wrong. Have you had the horse examined by a veterinarian and what did he find on each of the problems you list.

Thanks,
The vet thought it was sweet itch, but I can`t understand why he has it allyear round, even in winter he is itchy and his skin flaky and dry.

Central England (UK)

I did not think England had the climate for developimng anhiDrOsis. Follow the diagnostic protocol set forth in the article and let us know what happens. In the mean time if you feel the first vet is in error or did not do a complete job, you may want to get a second opinion on the other problems, including the skin.
