Discussion on Bred mare with body heat
Author Message

Posted on Tuesday, Jun 25, 2002 - 8:34 pm:

My mare was bred the 3rd and 4th of June.
She was out on the 5th. Last week, the 21st, the ferrier trimmed her feet. Today, her feet are sore (front only) and her body was warm to the touch. I know that it is hot, but this seemed to be an unusual body heat. My second mare in the stall next to her was not warm to the touch. I thought maybe since she is coming up Thursday to have come in again if she did not settle would have / be causing the body heat. Help
Thanks

I don't think the difference in the temperature of the skin is of any reproductive significance and it is normal for horses skin temperature to vary in response to internal and environmental factors. 2 normal horses can have 2 different skin temperatures at the same time.
