I have a show pony that just got clipped. She is a chestnut with a darker undercoat. Normally she is shiney and "sleek" looking. After this clipping she is dull and almost gray-dirty looking. No flakes and she was shampooed. No complaints from her, nothing different. She was insulin resistant and is off grain and pellets. She gets a multi-V, vitamin E (powder), and Magnesium. Any ideas??? What can I do to shine her up? What products do you recommend? Or is her diet wrong?? Thanks, Kacy

I've heard that if you clip after a certain time of year that they can get a bit shorn. apparently there's a proper time to clip before their hair grows fully in. I know in Texas we clip no later than November and further north its earlier. maybe her hair just needs to grow out a wee bit. You could ask the person who did the clip. They might know.

Kacy alot of chestnuts I've seen clipped looked like that right after the clip. They looked very shiny and nice after a few weeks of hair growth, even in the winter.

I have had Susan's experience. If I clip too late, my beautiful dark chestnut looks like mustard!
I usually clip in late September so there is a little more hair growth to promote better color. But then, I don't show. I merely clip to help dry the sweat faster.
