I have a mare with severe EPSM. I really want to have a foal from her in a few years time. Is it dangerous for her to have a foal? I don't want to put her at any risk. Any advice?

Lea-Anne, EPSM is a genetic condition and since her symptoms severe she may be homozygous for the condition. Therefore she should not be bred and perpetuate the problem. According to Dr Valberg there is currently a genetic test being developed and expected to be available next year. This should make diagnosis much easier and alleviate the uncertainty around the diagnosis of this condition using biopsy.

Thank you DrO. It really is a shame as my mare has very good conformation and a great temprament.
