My recently castrated yearling has developed proud flesh at the incision site. Is this unusual in castrations? I've never heard folks talking about this problem. Any special treatments you can recommend besides hosing, trimming the proud flesh, and using antibacterial ointment? Anything I should be concerned about or look for? The colt was gelded two weeks ago. Thanks.

Yes a little granulation tissue is neccessary for healing the important points would be how much you have and where it is located. So I am not sure you have a problem but following determination you have a problem the treatments you suggest are logical. DO NOT put proud flesh medicine here.

Thanks for the reply - it was a bit more than a "little" granulation tissue. We took off a good fist-sized chunk, but we've got it under control now.
