Have a 19 yr old horse in my barn, who seems to feel great. But he does have a perfectly round mass on the left side of his throatlatch, and he occasionally coughs up thick yellow mucus. (I don't know if the mucus comes out of his nose or mouth, haven't caught him in the act). But the round mass seems to almost disappear after he expels this stuff. Is it possible the mass and the cough are related? This guy never gets winded, and works very hard.

It is possible they are related and very possible they are not. You need to have someone exam the horse and identify the swelling. We have descriptions of some of the things you see in this area at Equine Diseases » Skin Diseases » Diagnosing and Assessing Swellings in Horses.
