Hello,
My 8 year old gelding is currently on paddock rest and standing wraps for a check ligament injury to left foreleg. This morning re-wrapping legs I see a soft swelling 1 by 3 inches on the outside of his left forearm, above the knee, back of the "crease" of ligaments or tendons. I poked a little bit, and got a very small reaction from him. He does not seem lame walking in his small area. Vet is returning in 3 weeks for recheck of check ligament. What could I be looking at here? Better to have vet back out immediately? Thanks for responses.

Hello Deb,
There are several possiblilities. We have an article that helps you differentiate them at, » Equine Diseases » Skin Diseases » Diagnosing and Assessing Swellings in Horses. Whenever you have a situation that you do not understand we recommend you call the vet. We can help you understand what is going on but cannot replace a physical exam by a knowledgable person.
