Dear Dr O,
I was very dumb and used a strong sweat on my paint yearling's swollen knee. I have blistered the skin and would like to know what the best way to treat this. I have applied cortisone ointment 1% for humans to help keep the area soft and reduce the irritation. Will this make it worse?
Any suggestion appreciated

Hello Frances,
I would not use corticosteroid preparations. I would treat it like a burn, see » Equine Diseases » Skin Diseases » Burns and Burn Therapy for specific instructions. If this is a severe burn you should also seek professional help.
