I am a new horse owner and I am in need of advice. Two months ago my horse started to get what we thought we pressure sores on the right side of his withers. The vet thought it was the pad I was using so I bought a cushion pad and used a small foam pad cut out around the sores. They went down but now two more are appearing just to the right of the old ones. Thinking it must be the saddle I went to a nationally recognized saddle maker who thought because the sores are only on one side that my horse could be going crooked....what does that mean? Any thoughts you have are welcomed.

Your vet doesn't think it's a fistula, does he? Do the sores drain?

I guess he means he does not go straight? Does your horse travel with his body curved when going straight?

After making sure the saddle is OK (and to be sure you would need to replace it with another well fitting saddle) I would be more inclined to think you put more pressure on one side than the other. I see far more crooked riders than I see crooked horses.
