My horse had a small cut above one of his eyes 2 days ago and I noticed that flies were drawn to this cut. I put a small amount of Swat on the cut. Today, I noticed that this eye is now tearing and a membrane near the corner of his eye on his lower lid is now swollen. I think some of the Swat must have gotten in his eye. What can I use to make his eye feel and get better? Should I use an eye wash made for horses or can I use contact solution (I have seen some people use that)?

Hello Nadia,
You certainly should wash off the Swat and yes the eye can be rinsed with any human eye wash. However if the swelling or discomfort worsen you may want to consult a veterinarian for both local and systemic antiinflammatory action.
