Dr.O:
My 13 yr old arab started having some hoof wall separation in his LH back in March. I had my vet out for radiographs at that time and he said that everything looked normal and to just keep an eye on it. My farrier just informed me that the hoof wall separation is getting worse and now he just noticed a spot on the LF. My horse has not been lame at all.
Can hoof wall separation be from vitamin/mineral overload or defecit? What about putting more weight on the LH leg? My horse did have a RH stifle injury 2 yrs ago, but it fully recovered. My vet is coming out again on Tues, Oct 7 to radiograph the hoof again.
Thanks!!!

ps--he was put on thyroid meds in Aug for a newly diagnosed thyroid condition.
