I recently bought an 11 year old warmblood mare and was informed that a few years prior she had a breech delivery resulting in either severe damage to the foal or death(person I bought from did not own her then). Although I am not planning on breeding her is she more likely to have problems foaling now? I have read the articles on foaling but did not find much info on breech. Her previous foals apparently came out fine.

For most folks, breech is another term for dystocia, the article associated with this forum explains about these in detail. It also gives you a prognosis for future normal pregnancy. In general most would say there is a slight increase chance of problems but it is not high. The big concern is, was any damage done to the reproductive tract during the dysocia that may cause future problems getting settled. A through exam is warranted before you buy to see if there are any visual or unltrasonographic abnormalities.

Thanks DrO. As I stated I did not buy her for breeding so the prepurchase exam did not cover that but I'll be sure and get an exam done if I do decide to breed her.
