Our 16 year old horse developed incontinence about 10 months ago. We think rolling in his stall was the cause. Our vet tried several actions with out success and was not sure how to cure him of this problem
Just recently it was suggested that the horse has Cauda equina synDrOme and we put the horse down.
The horse has performed normal other than the incontinence over this 10 month time.
Any suggestions on how to confirm if he has Cauda equina synDrOme or be able to determine if it is something else.
Thank you for any help, comments or advice

Hello Bruce,
I went and did some research to see if there was anymore information than what is in the article and nothing new is out there. To diagnose this disease requires a biopsy that includes some of the effected nerves.

However incontinence alone is not very high on my list of CE presentations or what is now called polyneuritis equi. For a very involved discussion on incontinence see Equine Diseases » Urinary System » Excessive or Uncontrolled Urination » Loss of sphincter tone in young mare.
