I have a 17 year old Quarter Horse Mare that has a minor limp at a trot and some minor swelling on the back side of the front left leg between the knee and ankle.

I took her to the vet last week and he diagnosed her as having "some tendinitis". He prescribed Cosequin, Bute and 4-6 weeks of rest.
I am leary of his diagnosis because he never layed a hand on the horse, but we are following his instructions.

My questions are as follow:

Should we be wrapping her leg and applying DMSO or cold water therapy? And, should we be stalling her daily to prevent her from making her injury worse?

She is currently taking it easy in the pasture at her own pace which seems to make her the happiest. If stalled daily, she becomes very ancy & hyper.

Hello Paula,
Hmmmm I agree with you all the way around: the diagnosis is uncertain from such a exam and IF it is tendenitis, the treatment does not have enough rest. For proper treatment and rehab of a tendinitis see the article associated with this forum, Equine Diseases » Foal Diseases » Tendon Laxity and Contracture.
