Dr. O, I have been reading on another Bulletin Board about vaccinating Appy's with Leptospirosis because they seem to be more prone to getting UV..my understanding is that there is no vaccine for horses but that their vets are using a dogs/ or cattle vaccines on them.. Is there truth in this usage of Leptospirosis vaccine..?

Thanks as always Ann

On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted the good ones!

Actually I don't believe Appaloosa's are predisposed to lepto-induced uveitis. Appaloosa's are predisposed to uveitis, but sunlight-induced uveitis do to the lighter pigmentation of the periocular structures.

Let's see should I vaccinate my horse with a vaccine of unknown efficacy, unknown dosing regimen, and unknown adverse effects, for the rest of his life because there is a small possibility for developing RU? Hmmmm.. Actually this is a often discussed subject on these board so for more I would run a search.
