I looked in the other posts and couldn't find anything similar. My 4-year-old appendix quarter horse has what feels like a scabby bumpy rash on his back under where the saddle goes. It covers a large area. It didn't bother him when I touched it. There appears to be no hair loss. I couldn't see exactly what it looked like because of his hair covering the area. My trainer thought it could be a fungal infection that developed as a result of sweat left on after he has been ridden. Any ideas as to what it is and how to treat it? I was thinking of using Nizoral Shampoo to clean the area.

I would suggest it is dermatophillus, and the scabs have just not come off yet, though there are other much less likely possibilities. For how to diagnose it see, Equine Diseases » Skin Diseases » Rain Rot and Rain Scald: Dermatophillus.
