A bit of history. I have a three yr old filly. I have brushed her thoroughly everyday since I bought her. She is on pasture in the summer, grass hay/alfalfa cubes in the winter with whole oats. She has access to free choice salt, water amd a loose mineral is added to her feed each day.
Last winter my filly had very heavy dandruf(I don't know if this fact is conected) and a mild case of rain rot. I bathed her with a dandruf shampoo in the summer and the rain rot seemed to go away.
However, she developed a mild case of scratches and as soon as the weather started to turn cold the rain rot came back; witha vengence! This poor girls withers to half way down her shoulders and her hip to croup is hevily covered with the little scabs. They are elswhere also but those are the heaviest concentrations. she is very itchy and will stand for me to pick the scabs off. Should she have another bath?
Should she have penicilin?
Thanks
Lori

Hello Lori,
I wouldn't use the penicillin, but follow the recommendations in the article for treatment.
