Ringworm also called tinea, is a common infection causing hair loss and scaling in horses. It suffers from both over-diagnosis and yet is often missed as a diagnosis. Similar and more common skin diseases, at least in many areas, like rain rot (dermatophilosis), staph infections (folliculitis) are often mis-diagnosed as ringworm. However the mild changes or atypical appearance of some cases of ringworm allows the disease to go mis-diagnosed in some cases. Fortunately most cases of ringworm are typical and by knowing the different clinical appearance of these similar diseases can be diagnosed. This article discusses the appearance, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and prevention of ringworm. To access this article click » Ringworm Dermatophytosis) » off the navigation bar above.
