I read the article and the posts and am not finding the answer I was looking for. If a stallion with no symptoms has been identified as an EVA shedder, is this a temporary or permanent status? How long could an untreated stallion continue to be a shedder?

Hello kbrooks,
When applied to individuals, this is not a simple question with a simple answer, it will require testing. Some infected stallions clear the infection rather quickly, in weeks to months following acute infection. Others go on and carry it for their whole life. Everything in between these two extremes has been documented. In one recent research study 18% of stallions were carrying the infection 2 years later but earlier studies suggest this number is higher. The article describes how to identify the persistant carrier.
