I have spent hours reading posts on this condition. Our 6 year old gelding exhibits many of the symptoms mentioned here but there are a couple of things that I have not seen mentioned. He has a very hard time getting down to roll. He'll get down in the front then just hang up and shiver in the back then DrOp hard. He also gives the farrier a hard time with his back legs, actually had 2 that wouldn't finish the job, finally found one that is patient enough to work with him. Do you think these are typical symptoms of stifle lock or does it sound like something else?

Welcome Ruth,
There is a condition called "shivers" that causes stiffness and pain in the back legs and is one of the forms of myopathy that we associated with tying up. The farriers problems in particular make me think of it see Equine Diseases » Lameness » Muscle & Tendon Diseases » Tying Up, Rhabdomyolysis, and Shivers (EPSM).
