Age of animal: 9


Age when purchased: 8


Age when problem started: 8 noticed today...8/15/08


Where on the body did the problem start: arm pits


What did the problem look like initially: pink, raw,


How has it spread:all underneath her arm pit, starting on her belly


What season did it start: Summer


Is the problem seasonal or year round:
If seasonal, what season: It just started, I have no idea


Does the horse itch: yes
Where: in the rash area


Do any animals or people in contact with this horse have similar skin problems: people do come incontact none with the same problem


Is fly control used: yes


Do any relatives of this horse have similar skin problems:no idea

List any medications (topical, oral, injected) or chemicals used on the horse before the problem developed: garlic powder, winning touch, glycosamen


List any medications used after the problem developed: we used some dexamethison


Where any medications helpful: not sure yet


Where any medications harmful: not sure yet


Describe the horse's environment and bedding: clean stall (i am ocd about stalls) we use shavings too, and stall dry


What is the animal fed: blue seal trotter

Yes photos or good descriptions of the lesions would help. It is the next part of the diagnosis form and gives suggestions and descriptions of lesions.

One of mine gets this in the summer when he sweats a lot. The sweat runs down (along with any fly spray, etc., that has been applied) and seems to collect here where it causes irritation similar to what you have described. I have had good results from washing the area with Betadine (Povidone) scrub, rinsing throughly and drying with a towel.
