There has been a major rewrite and update to the Overview of Founder and Laminitis article. Treatment has not been changed remarkably though we have updated some information particularly with regard to cold soaking the feet and nitroglycerin. The sections on causes and pathogenesis has been completely rewritten to clarify concepts and bringing the article in line with the latest information currently available access article.

Dr. O.,

Just started reading the new article.

There are errors in the descriptions in the box of the hoof drawings . . . can be confusing for someone who is a novice at understanding laminitis.

Thanks,
Holly

Hello Holly,
Can you describe the errors?

Sure Dr. O.
In the box with the drawing of the cross-sections of the hooves . . . one the left showing a normal hoof and the right showing a rotating coffin bone, the descriptions under the drawings both reference the "left" drawing, but the rotation and pulling away is shown in the "right" drawing. Yesterday, I looked at it three times to see if I was understanding it correctly. I hope I'm telling you correctly.

thanks!

what we found very interesting what how proactive surgeons and surgical facilities are in preventing founder in their surgical patients.

Our Florida Cracker gelding had surgery for a strangulation of his small intestine due to a Meckle's diverticulum which tied a knot around three feet and cut the off the circulation and he had to have a resection and they loaded him with DMSO, lidocaine, padded his feet, stood him in ice water and did all sorts of things to make sure he didn't founder. And he didn't and he's fine. great surgeon and great job.

Got it and thanks. I have also rewrote the captions to be clearer and more descriptive.
