Dr.O,
I have been told that riding my horse in the sandy riverbed (dried) will cause her to have ligament or tendon problems, but some people have also told me that riding and letting her run in the sand will be good for her heart! which is it? I love my old girl but when we do ride she really wants to run and its verry hard to hold her back! but idont want t hurt her either I only ride in the riverbed about once a week. please tell me which is right!

Hello Jennifer we have just had a very good discussion about riding in the sand. Run a Search on the Discussions for "Riding in the Sand". Be sure to set the keyword options to "and" it should pop up near the top.

Go to Equine Diseases -> Lameness -> Diseases of the Lower Limb -> Flexor Tendinitis. It is in the discussion under that heading.
