Hello Elaine,
There are problems with just treating the allergic cough and not the environment causing the cough. Unlike humans most respiratory allergies involve the lungs setting up a non-infectious pneumonia that with time can become chronic, progressive, and untreatable. For more on this read carefully the article on COPD that is associated with your discussion. The article also answers your direct question and gives dosages of dex for symptomatic relief.

Hi Elaine
Most of the complete feeds (such as Equine Senior) have a bunch of beet pulp in them...they are fed dry...I personally fed my plain ol beet pulp shreds dry, but...
If she has a history of choke or bolts her feed, maybe soak it.

Hello Elaine,
We cover the wet vs dry beet pulp controversy at Horse Care » Equine Nutrition, Horse Feeds, Feeding » Beet Pulp in the How to Feed Beet Pulp subtopic. Remember it is not just vitamins that need a bit of supplementation but minerals balanced and protein supplemented. Fortunately there are easy ways to do that and they too are covered in the article.
