The United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a voluntary program to test up to 3,000 breeding stallions for Taylorella equigenitalis, the bacteria that causes Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM). This voluntary program is in response to the on-going CEM incident involving approximately 991 horses found in 48 states. There are some costs involved with the testing but the cost of the test itself is covered. Those interested should contact their veterinarian.
