Discussion on "lesser curvature" - right or left side?

Just took my mare who has been having issues to be scoped.

They found a few grade 2 ulcers on the 'lesser curvature' of the stomach.

Not sure if her stomach has been causing all of her issues, or if there are multiple things going on, but we are trying gastroguard anyhow. She has been on one of the generics for a month+.

Anyhow - most of her 'touchiness' has been on her right side' and I was wondering if the 'lesser curvature' was on the right side or not? Or maybe its not on any 'side' at all?

Hello Kimberely,
Your last speculation in correct. The lesser curvature is more dorsal (oriented towards the spine) than either side of the body. I don't think the "goosy side" is particularly diagnostic of the location of the problem. Horses that tolerate it well have just learned to put up with impolite human behavior. Horses whose abdomens have a low grade chronic pain may just become grumpier than normal.
