We are currently investigating our lameness issue grade 2 RF, and so are OK for trail riding and walk only. My horse exhibits no heat or swelling; and his walk sounds even. My question is how much is too much on the trails. The trail system we have is hard ground like paved cement with tiny gravel. We are out for 1 to 1 1/2 hours usually 3 times a week. Is two days in a row too much concussion?

Hello Pat,
This is a question for your veterinarian and farrier who can examine the horse as it depends on many factors that can only be answered by examining the horse and the horses history. What does your horse tell you about the work?

My horse does not like to go down steep trails. He will stop every ten feet or so depending on the severity of grade. I think his weightbearing on the front feet are uncomfortable but I can't really tell. If this lameness is indeed a soft tissue injury to the upper forelimb - my research has not panned out much so far.

I am waiting for a callback as to how much if any work even in walk should be done. Previously my vet said not 2 days in a row due to the concussive effect. But now our injury looks like soft tissue, so I would less work and more rest may be in order.
