I am currently looking after a friends horse. He is on pasture and keeping up with the flys is a very challenging job.I use blackshield fly spray and am using vaseline as a salve just to keep the flys from irritating his belly.I noticed yesterday that he has 2 swellings 1 under his belly and 1 just up and on the side of his belly. They appear to be warm and he seems a little concerned when I touch them, he doesn't seem to have a problem with me touching his belly any other time.I believe this problem is a reaction to the fly bites but I'm wondering if I should be concerned about it other than fly patrol. Thanks any ideas would be apprieciated...Lorraine

Certainly flies can cause such swelling, are there any other symptoms? What is in the Blackshield?

You might try putting some swat on the swelled areas after you have cleaned them. That will keep the flies off of those spots and give them a chance to heal. We have had good luck doing that with ours in the past. Poor horses have tried to rub their bellies on sprinkler risers as soon as we shut the water off to change the hand line. They will pop them off if we don't get them changed fast enough. I feel so sorry for them. EO
