Ultrasound of my mare on day 16 showed overlapping embryo's nearly right on top of one another. Vet recommended waiting 7 - 10 days and then US again to see if one resorbed. Day 32 US showed identical twins and vet recommended giving lutalyse 3cc to abort. The lutalyse was given on Wednesday and my mare is showing strong signs of being in heat which started Friday (2 days after lutalyse, and even more so on Saturday.

My question is, does her showing strong signs of being in heat indicate the abortion was successful? I am going back for another US on Wed, 7 days after lutalyse injection. I am really hopping the abortion is successful and I can breed her again soon.

Hello Lauri, yes that is a strong indication as it shows lack of luteal function needed to support pregnancy at this time.
