My mare has had cutanious lymphosarcoma for about a year and a half. Prednisolone was not effective and it seem out last two options are Chemotherapy and Dextamethazone. We started her on the Dex a few days ago, but I am curious as to whether or not anyone know how with treatment could work. Chemo has been done only a few times and we cannot find any kind of decisive information on whether or not it is worth putting her through. Please let me know if you know how likely it is that either chemo or dex will help her.

Welcome Lily,
I am sorry to hear about your horse's difficult problem. Your experience will depend on many factors particular to your case so you will have trouble generalizing someone's individual experience to yours. However the article associated with this forum has specific information on outcomes drawn from multiple cases with the most commonly used treatments.

Thank you for your response, I had read your article and it was the most useful article that I have found having done considerable research. I was hoping in addition for more individual feedback from people who have gone through this. I am interested in people who have had a successful outcome and how the horse progressed after treatment; if is was rideable, the quality of life, ect. Do you think that if she did not respond to prednisolone twice that her chances of responding to Dex are not terribly high? Thank you.

Dex is quie a bit more potent though the mechanism of action is the same. It is fairly inexpensive and not many downsides considering the seriousness of the situation.
