hello- I have a 20 year old mare who recently developed a 2 in across lump on the front of her knee. It is not hot, and not squishy. SHe is not lame on it although sometimes will take a misstep on that leg. Someone told me that it could possibly be an arthritis bump (I have never heard of that) and that it does not need attention. I have tried to wrap it a few times but the wrap slips down because its on a joint. Any recommendations or other things to check for?

There are many possibilities Wendy, particularly because of the lack of more precise localization and description. We know what it is not which does not exactly tell us what it is. Could you take a good picture of this. Several views with good lighting on the knee will help. The missteps should be considered signs of lameness.
