  Discussion on Another Coggins question. Why don't they test in California?

To stir up an old subject, I also live in the PNW and we don't test for coggins either. If I were showing and hauling around to different barns, I probably would test but as mentioned, it's not generally done. When I moved here from NY 14 years ago and bought my first Washington bred horse I asked the vet to do a coggins and he thought I was nuts and told me that hardly anyone does it out here. Of course, it was just one of the things you did every year back east. That's the same with heartworm for dogs. It's not very common out here so we don't medicate for it.
