Discussion on Filly with chronic diarrhea

Has anyone ever experienced a growing foal with chronic diarrhea? Mariah has had this condition since birth. She is now 10 mos. old and is beautiful, but a little undersized for her age and breed. When she was 5 months old she was treated with metronidazole for 30 days which got her to a cowpie manure consistancy. Then pepto as needed to keep away the watery to shooting diarrhea. Then we ( the vet and I) left her alone with no changes hoping that she would improve on her own. That didn't happen so 3 weeks ago we finally tried Reaform after he presented her case for discussion at a Equine Veterinary Seminar. The Reaform and steroids were 2 treatments suggested. After 11 days on the reaform her diarrhea was worse so I ended that treatment. Now, one week later she has gotten worse and has the profound diarrhea and is on kaopectin. Yesterday, we started the steroids and expect to use it for apprx. 30 days. I know the steroid will work at least while she is on it because she had 1 injection for an allergic reaction then had normal manure for 24 hours.

Has anyone else been through this and what was the outcome?
