Hi, I have a horse with a bone spavin which is proving difficult to fuse. It is however fusing slowly. I recently purchased an equissage system (www.equissage.co.uk) to help with the muscular problems he has a result of the spavin. It is simply a very effective massaging system. The equissage suppliers claim great success in treating sore shins as it increases take up of calcium. They also say the improved circulation helps arthritics. The effects on muscles in a short time is amazing. I was wondering if I could use the system on his leg to free his stiff hock prior to work. But will this prevent fusion?
As we warm up his hock frees up (eventually) but if this works it could free his hock before I get on saving him (& me) 20-30 minutes of stiff work before he can get working. And the more work he does the better the fusion.
Do you get equissage systems for sale in the US?

I'll be speaking to my vet and hopefully the vet of the equissage system.

Obscure question I know. I'd be interested in views on how increasing circulation affect arthritis.

Thanks

Wendy

At this point MrsWP, anything that helps him go better will also speed fusion. The more he uses the leg, the quicker it will probably fuse. We really don't know the effect of the massage of fusion so you just keep working towards keeping him working and comfortable and the fusion will take care of itself...usually.
