Dr O,
Grayce has just been brought back from breeding at a vet friend (small animal) of mine. She was there for 7 days. The night I brought her back I noticed a dry cough. The next day nasal drainage. Today she has thick yellow-green drainage. I have not noticed her coughing today and her temp. is normal. The stallion has bred my friends mares(5) for the last 3 years without any problems and bred 3 before Grayce.I also had another mare bred at the same time by the same stallion and there is no problem with her. I have not used any antibiotic treatment.I have read this sites information and she really does not "fit" any of the profiled diseases.( no fever, eats like a horse ,no lymph swelling,no red eyes) I am worried what effect this possible infection will have on the fetus if she is bred.Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated, as we only have 2 equine vets. in my area and Grayce is not the favorite patient of my vet-1 of the 2 vets.(A story for another day)

You have one of the diseases listed in Nasal Discharge, Cough, and Fever. The lack of fever or lymph swelling suggests that this is a mild case and probably not strangles but it could be any of the other possibilities. This is unlikely to have any effect on the pregnancy if she is pregnant.
